5 ways to be more earth friendly

It’s time to make Earth Day every day in your life if you haven’t already! We are providing you with five ways you can easily choose to be more earth friendly in your daily routine, with awesome photo examples from our SAMBASSADOR Rose Machado!  Make sustainable changes to lessen the negative effect that your daily activities create, and you’ll be well on your way to improving your local community.

ride your bike

Ride your bike

Instead of driving your car when commuting locally, break out that bicycle. When you trade in those four wheels for two, you’ll get a good workout and avoid using more gas. Since driving is a major source of carbon emissions, you can shrink your carbon footprint and keep the environment cleaner for everyone by switching to a green commute.

Riding your bike is also a great way to cut down on your monthly bills, as you’ll be spending less money at the gas station. It's also a great form of exercise. Treating your body right and saving money while getting where you need to go and enjoying the great outdoors on your bike? We consider that a win-win-win-win!

use less plastic

Use Less Plastic

While it can be difficult in our society to be entirely plastic free, finding ways to use less single use plastic and plastic products is beneficial in reducing your carbon footprint. Our Ready to Eat Açaí Bowls are a great option for reducing your plastic waste when choosing an easy on the go meal.

Most to-go options at your local grocery store for breakfast or lunch will come wrapped in plastic containers that are low quality and often unrecyclable. That's why choosing a delicious Ready to Eat Açaí Bowl can provide the convenient solution you need while allowing you to feel good about your lunch when you recycle it later.

Our ready to eat, on-the-go organic Açaí bowl are packaged in a container made from 100% Plant Fiber. The bowl, the film, sleeve, and adhesive of this packaging are all made from PFAS free, FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified plant-based material. We are working hard to reduce our plastic pollution as we test new sustainable solutions destined to change the face of the industry.

ready to eat bowls

We love the creative ways that customers have found to use our Ready to Eat Açaí Bowls after they finish their meals. While you can recycle these bowls, a creative way to make use of them is to turn them into seed containers to plant delicious fruits or veggies. light a candle

Reduce your Energy Usage

It’s always important to turn off lights and unplug your electronics when they’re not in use. Reducing your energy use is easy and manageable, and saves you money. Each time you leave the house, make sure to check that you’ve turned off your heat or air conditioning, as well as the lights. Electricity generation is a big source of carbon emissions that contribute to climate change, and you can do your part to reduce them.

One way we love to do this is to light candles in the nighttime and turn off the lights in the house. Not only does it save energy, but it also creates a relaxing mood in your household to wind down at the end of your day. And, of course, who doesn't love a well-lit home that smells good?

recycle

Recycle! Your Energy Drinks

Make sure to recycle whenever possible — the goal is to reduce the amount of new plastic or other material that needs to be made from scratch. Another option is to extend the life of your plastic by reusing it instead of throwing it away after only one use. You can make art projects, use them as reusable containers, and really get creative in the ways that you make new life out of used containers.

Make sure to check out your local guidelines when recycle plastic, especially those pesky, hard-to-recycle ones. An example is that glass bottles must have labels removed and be washed out. Another important one is to break down any boxes you receive in the mail.

make good clothing choices

Make Good Choices when it comes to clothes

Another way to be more earth-friendly in your day-to-day life is to donate your used clothes. In a landfill, it can take textile waste hundreds of years to decompose and release greenhouse gases in the process.

Shopping thrift stores and avoiding fast fashion is another effective way to make sure you are not contributing to the culture of over-consumerism. If you are choosing to buy something new, make sure that it’s excellent quality and will last a long time. One brand that we love is Patagonia, who has multiple programs in place for their customers to recycle used clothing and repair ones that they would otherwise throw away.

And there you have it: five straightforward steps you can start taking today to lessen your footprint and make sure we take care of Mother Earth. At the end of the day, this is our home, and it’s important that we take care of it for future generations to come. Making minor changes at home might not seem like much, but they do add up if we all join together to make sustainable choices and protect the planet from dangerous human activities.

At SAMBAZON, we are proud to be doing the work to “transparently demonstrate our goals, our efforts, our shortcomings, and our progress to be a model corporate citizen and sustainable business of the future,” as our CEO and Co-Founder Ryan Black explains in our Impact Report. Be sure to give it a read and let us know what you think in the comments below.
